An evergreen with a leaf?
Generally in evergreen hedging, conifers have take a lead role in screening, but with the laurel you get the best of both worlds, fully evergreen all year round, it also has a big glossy leaf which looks gives a bit more interest and due to the bushiness of the plant offers a great place for birds to nest in throughout the year. During the spring it has a beautiful white and yellow flower with a fresh green leaf. Although it is fairly fast growing, it can be retained as a formal hedge which looks great or if left more natural, they can grow into big specimens both in height and width, then if your a bit creative can clip it into a shape to make a feature of a humble hedging plant.
